Penn School |
||
Penn school at Beaconsfield was founded in 1797 by the Irish statesman Edmund Burke, for French refugees. A letter from Burke to Nugent Buckingham reveals that the early days of the school were problematic and that he clashed with the Bishop of Leon. Richard Chandos wrote to his mother from Penn, and letters dated from February 1806 to December 1807 survive at the Huntington Library (HEH STG Correspondence Box 7 (32)). This is presumably Penn school, Beaconsfield. A letter of February 1806 gives compliments from Mr & Mrs Middleton. |
