James Leigh

In memory of James Leigh Esqr who died on Marh 31st 1774 aged 49

Inheriting the virtues of his ancestors, he shone in every

endearing character of private life; the best husband, father,

brother, friend, in public he was an excellent magistrate, ever

studious to support justice and relieve distress, independent of

Yet well affected to government, a friend to liberty and an enemy

to the licentiousness of the time, his zeal for religion, this church

which he chiefly rebuilt, and its worship which he constantly

attended, declare, prepared as he was by habits of virtue,

a sudden death exhilarated his reward

He married Marh 10th 1753 the Right Honble Lady Caroline Brydges,

eldest daughter of Henry Duke of Chandos, by his first wife, Mary

daughter of Charles Earl of Ailesbury, by whom he has left an

only son, she erected this monument in testimony of his virtues

and her affection.

Judith Julia Leigh, relict of the above

(daughter of Thomas 10th Lord Saye and Sele)

Who died February 8th 1843, Aged 71

and was interred in the mausoleum at Stoneleigh

Eminently endowed with talents, sense and judgement

She employed these high gifts bestowed on her by her maker

In the unwearied performance of her Christian duties, and

was equally distinguished for devoted

attachment to her family, and active

benevolence towards all
