Sir Edward Hyde East

1764-1847. MP for Winchester and confidant of the the first Duchess. Allied to the first Duke in politics and a Grenvillite MP. He was  trustee of their 1796 marriage settlement. 

  • 1764: Born in Jamaica. He was son of Edward East the Duchess of Chandos's agent on the island and Amy Hall (married 1761).

    • 1782: Magdalen College, Oxford
  • 1786: Married Jane Isabella Hankey (?-1844) on 23 December 
  • 1792-96: MP for Great Bedwyn
  • 1813-23: MP for Winchester (succeeding James Henry Leigh)
  • 1813: Knighted
  • 1823: Created a Baronet
  • 1827: Takes control of first Duke's financial affairs
  • Children: James Buller East and Anna Elizabeth East
  • 1847: Died
