The Nugent Family |
The Nugent family were Anglo-Norman with extensive connections to Westmeath, Ireland. By the end of the sixteenth century, the Nugent family had fortified Westmeath and had built numerous castles, including Bracklyn, Carlanstown, Donore, Drumcree, Killough, Loughegar and Streamstown. The family admired the Gaelic way of life and were patrons of the O’Coffeys, the bardic clan of Westmeath. The Nugent family is linked to the Dukes through:
