Reverend William Robert Fremantle |
||
1807-1895. Son of Admiral Sir Thomas Fremantle and Betsy Wynne.
We have arranged to take a part of the duties in a large Parish in Surrey for the next six months. The name of the place is Godalming and I am going there on Wednesday next God willing; and shall look about for a house &c for Emily. Our little establishment will not take long to remove, and I only regret that one Mr Archimedes was killed at Syracuse otherwise I should have made interest with him to invent an instrument which would take up the little Rectory House by the Chimney and pop it down at Godalming, something in this fashion.
This would astonish the natives, perhaps, but then there is plenty of invention abroad in the present day, and we must be prepared for anything. (4 October 1836; William to his mother; BRO D-FR/43/H)
