1st Baron: Thomas Francis Fremantle
1798-1890. Eldest son of Admiral Sir Thomas and Betsy [Wynne] Fremantle (see family tree). Lived at Swanbourne.

- 1826-46: Elected MP for Buckingham on 23 May 1826, succeeding his uncle, William Henry Fremantle
- 1833: Trustee of the Grenville estates during the Duke's financial difficulties
- 1834-35: Secretary to the Treasury
- 1841-44: Secretary to the Treasury in Robert Peel's administration
- 1844: Secretary at War
- 1845-46: Chief Secretary for Ireland
- 1846: Resigned as MP to become Deputy Chairman, subsequently Chairman, of the Board of Customs (until 1873).
- 3 December 1890: Died
Also a Justice of the Peace and Lord of the Manor of Swanbourne.
Tom had proposed to Louisa by 30 June 1824 but Sir George Nugent refused to give Louisa a good settlement unless Tom's parents contributed more (BRO D-FR/46/11/104). Matters were however resolved by October (letter).
1st Baroness: Louisa Elizabeth [Nugent] Fremantle
1803-1875. Daughter of Field Marshall Sir George Nugent and Maria Skinner. The first Duke thought her ill treated by her mother:
Lady Sr George Nugent hacks her poor girl about too much. I wish she may not over do her objects, as Louisa is a very good & charming girl. (HEH ST 95; entry for 25 May 1823)
